The next step in putting the Rear
Sight Back together is to secure the Rear Sight
Base and Cover Spring in place. This can be a little
tricky.
One way of many to do so is to first
center the Rear Sight Base and then lift it until
it just barely touches the Cover Spring. Then take
a small flat bladed screwdriver and push forward
and down on the rear portion of the Spring Cover
until it slips into the groove cut for it in the
top of the Receiver. A small film of oil on the
receiver can help this process a bit.
For clarity, the photo below shows the screwdriver
without any protection on it. Use a cleaning patch
or some other buffer between the screwdriver and
the Cover Spring so as not to scratch the Cover
Spring.
Before going any further take the time to
grease the splines on the Elevation Knob and the
Rear Sight Aperture.
With the base portion of the sight reassembled
and the parts greased - complete the final steps.
