Reassembling The Sights On The M1 Garand

The first step of reassembling the Rear Sight is to lay out all the necessary parts. In the photograph below you can see all of the parts that I need. Set out the Combo Tool, a small flat bladed screwdriver, a cleaning patch, and some grease.

The first step in putting the Rear Sight back together is placing the Spring Cover into position. There is a slot cut in the front part of the Rear Sight Housing where the front of the Spring Cover fits in. At this stage simply line up the front of the Cover Spring and let the it rest in a loose fashion on top of the housing.

Next place the Rear Sight Base.

To place the Sight Base simply it into the rectangular hole in the top of the Spring Cover then line the Sight Base up roughly in the center using the index marks.

With the Rear Sight Base and the Spring Cover in place go to the next step.
