After detail stripping the rear portion of
the stock there is only a single piece left to remove
- the Stock Ferrule and Front Swivel Assembly.
The Ferrule Assembly simply slides off the
end of the stock as shown below. It is usually pretty
snug so 'walk it of by jiggling it back and forth
while pulling forward. (Note the groves in the stock
from where the Ferrule presses into the wood.)
We did not photograph the disassembly of
the Ferrule for this website, but taking it apart
is an obvious and simple matter.Simply unscrew the
Stock Ferrule Swivel Screw and remove the Forward
Swivel. In some cases this might mean doing a little
light filing of the screw tip, as many of these
screws have been peened to keep them from coming
lose.
Removing the Front Handguard is next. After
removing the Gas Cylinder Assembly (see other detail
strip section) this part simply slides off of the
end of the barrel.
The final, and most difficult step is
removing the Rear Handguard...
