How I Detail Strip The M1 Garand Gas Cylinder

Removal of the Stacking Swivel requires only the removal of the Stacking Swivel Screw. Sometimes these were peened so we have found that they may take a little bit of torque to remove and it is actually not a good idea unless it is really necessary as if the screw has been staked or peened you can mess things up pretty badly.

To remove the Stacking Swivel Screw simply turn the Stacking Swivel Screw with a standard screwdriver in a counterclockwise direction.

When you have unscrewed the Stacking Swivel Screw all the way it simply lifts out.

The final step is to pull the Stacking Swivel itself off. Sometimes these are a little tight but we have found that a firm steady pressure while rotating it up and down straight off seems to work the best.

Removal of the front sight from the Gas Cylinder will be covered in the Sight detail strip section.
