How To Reassemble The Bolt Group Of The M1 Garand
 

The first step to do when reassembling the bolt group is to put the firing pin back in the bolt housing.

Start by locating the cutout in the rear of the bolt. You can see this cutout at about 10 o'clock in the photograph below.

Orient the firing pin so that when it is inserted that angled metal on the back of it will slip directly into the cutout.

As shown below, the firing pin will slide all the way in and the rear of the firing pin will sit flush with the back of the bolt.

When the firing pin is in position turn the bolt over and replace the Extractor Spring and Plunger.
